Did you know?

  • The commercial real estate industry spends
approximately $24 billion annually on energy
costs and contributes 18% of US carbon
    dioxide emissions?
  • Energy is the largest controllable operating
expense for office buildings, typically one
    third of variable expenses?
  • A prevalent misconception in the marketplace
is that owners have to spend significant
capital in order to reduce energy costs?
  • A 30% reduction—which equates to savings
of $7.2 billion and 120 billion pounds less in
carbon dioxide emissions (the equivalent of
removing 12 million cars from US roadways)—
is readily achievable simply by improving
    building operating standards?

BOMA 360 Renewal Changes to 3 Years

There have been a number of exciting changes recently to the BOMA 360 Performance Program. At its meeting in February, the BOMA 360 Council voted to change the renewal requirement for the program from annually to every 3 years, effective immediately. That means that once a building is designated as a BOMA 360 building, that designation is good for 3 years as long as the building continues to meet the program pre-requisites, which include benchmarking annually through ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager and participating annually in the EER® survey. Designees will be asked to sign a ?statement of verification? each year.

New Fees Effective July 1, 2010.

BOMA 360 application fees will go up beginning July 1, 2010 to reflect the new 3-year renewal change; however, even with this increase, the new fee schedule (fee paid once every 3 years) represents a significant savings off the previous annual fee schedule. Current fees will continue to remain in effect until July 1, 2010; however, if an applicant starts an application prior to July 1 but does not submit it (i.e. hit the submit button) until July 1 or later, the higher fee will be charged.
